I WAS ABOUT TO PRAY

Gallery 4710 presents Irakli Mereli's solo show "I WAS ABOUT TO PRAY".

The main line of the exhibition is poetry and the contemplation of one's soul in an observant manner. The author, reflecting on his own experience, attempts to create a series of artworks which are metaphorical representations of a comprehensive rethinking. The featured artworks include portraits with gigantic, exaggerated faces, which are worn on one's back like metaphors of unearthly, concealed and unseeable matters.

The sensation is further intensified by the vibrant green, which is at the heart of the narrative and stands out more prominently in ceramic figures.

Irakli Mereli was born on August 28, 1992, in Batumi. He completed the Batumi Art School and started studying at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts in 2010 where he later (2018) continued his MFA studies focusing on painting and graphics.
